Biomass and Cellulose Dissolution—The Important Issue in Renewable Materials Treatment

نویسندگان

چکیده

Sustainable development strategies, as well the shift toward a circular bioeconomy, has led to high interest in and implementation of technologies that efficiently utilize biomass raw material. Switching from fossil-based bio-based resources requires consideration many new challenges problems. One crucial issues is solubility lignocellulose or at least its ingredients. According trends legislation, selected chemicals methods dissolution/treatment should also be environmentally friendly. The pretreatment processes prepare for further transformations (e.g., chemical, thermal including pyrolysis, biological) valuable products such biofuels, bio-oils, Fine Chemicals, solvents, plastics, others. This review discusses latest findings on dissolution application novel, green solvents ionic liquids deep eutectic discussed detail. impact composition structure these biomass/cellulose process, mechanism cellulose–ionic liquid interaction, presented. Some novel achievements usage inorganic salts specific metal complexes are overviewed.

Posidonia oceanica as a Renewable Lignocellulosic Biomass for the Synthesis of Cellulose Acetate and Glycidyl Methacrylate Grafted Cellulose

High-grade cellulose (97% α-cellulose content) of 48% crystallinity index was extracted from the renewable marine biomass waste Posidonia oceanica using H₂O₂ and organic peracids following an environmentally friendly and chlorine-free process. This cellulose appeared as a new high-grade cellulose of waste origin quite similar to the high-grade cellulose extracted from more noble starting materi...

The catalytic oxidation of biomass to new materials focusing on starch, cellulose and lignin

Biomass is a renewable class of materials of growing interest amongst researchers aiming to achieve global sustainability. This review focuses on the homogeneous catalysis of the oxidation of biomass, in particular starch, cellulose and lignin. Often such catalytic reactions lead to depolymerisation of the material as happens in Nature with for example brown rot fungi. This depolymerisation can...
